Ilfracombe Holiday Park is in beautiful natural surroundings, so spending time outdoors is always a highlight for our guests. These are some of the best outdoor activities near Ilfracombe Holiday Park you can find.
Tarka Trail
The Tarka Trail is a series of foot and cycle paths that form a 180-mile figure-of-eight loop through gorgeous, unspoiled countryside inspired by Tarka the Otter’s route from the book of the same name.
The Tarka Trail is a great place to walk or cycle, and it’s the longest continuous cycle path in the UK. The trail goes through various landscapes, including moorland, dramatic coastal cliffs, unspoiled sandy beaches, wooded river valleys and more.
The Tarka Trail is also very popular with bird watchers, who come to this area to spot the wide selection of birds seen here, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for some unusual species.
Valley of Rocks
The Valley of Rocks is very popular with visitors to north Devon. The U-shaped valley runs parallel to the coast near Lynton. The unique U-shape of the valley may have been partly formed during the Ice Age when a glacier stopped the East Lyn River from following its usual route. The river returned to its ordinary course when the glacier melted, leaving the spectacular landscape behind.
At the Valley of Rocks, you’ll likely spot some of the feral goats who call this area home, and you can explore the unusual rock formations and caves.
Woolacombe Beach
Woolacombe Beach is one of the best beaches in Devon and, in fact, in the whole of the UK and has won numerous awards over the years. The beach is incredibly long (3 miles!), so there’s no shortage of space, even in the height of the summer.
Woolacombe Beach is also very popular with surfers from near and far who enjoy the Atlantic breakers, making this a great surfing spot.
Saunton Sands
Saunton Sands is another of Devon’s best beaches and is backed by the UNESCO-protected Braunton Burrows Nature Reserve. The 3-mile stretch of golden sand is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, and the facilities on the beach make it perfect for families.
Saunton Sands also attracts many surfers who enjoy the long, slow waves. This beach is also dog-friendly, ideal for travelling with your four-legged friend. If you visit Saunton Sands, don’t miss out on a walk to Crow Point. You will have fantastic views across the gorgeous Devon coastline at Crow Point. Don’t forget your camera!
